Over the past 2 years, APAM has supported Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) as one of it’s charity partners and recently fundraised by racing virtually around the UK. CLZ supports conservation and community efforts in the Lower Zambezi. . Women in the Lower Zambezi are often the ones left in communities to look after the children and therefore they have a constant interaction and influence on the local environment. From this perspective CLZ feels that it is integral to support women’s empowerment within their local communities by helping women to feel engaged with conservation and financially empowering their needs. CLZ currently supports the ‘Mbelis’ (meaning ‘moving forward’ in the local language) which is a women’s group in the Chiawa GMA with the aim to develop their skills, create means of an income, take ownership of a business and find a market for their products.
